The poem entitled “I am Dversity , Please Include Me” pertains to the what diversity could bring to the table, if we accept and allow each other to embrace our own characteristics and differences. It is discovering the strangeness behind variety, allowing and accepting nature of it and learning confidently, leading us towards the successful and beautiful world of respect and honor. It was written by a Catholic Priest from England, “Charles Bennafield” who witness and sees that we are all God’s masterpieces, we are perfectly created according to his plans. One of the lessons he learned from traveling around many countries are “Cultural diversity means the existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a society. This means we accept and respect ALL nationalities, cultures, beliefs, religions, languages, and traditions of other humans, while honoring our own. It means we don’t have to give up our culture or nationality to unite as humans or to come together as a planet. Embracing a nationality or culture doesn’t mean you dismiss others, it simply means you are honoring your own.” Simma Lieberman was also a great contributor and has a deeper connection and understanding with this poem since she was a leader who builds organization that transforms workplace cultures.
Diversity plays a vital role in the success of one organization . Since different cultures are engaged, it will lead to an innovative, smarter, better, and stronger union of diversity. Sharing the same sun and oceans, together we are one towards achieving a common goal. It is unity among variety. We eliminate racism, prejudice, bullying , ignorance and stereotype for a meaningful and interesting life.
Diversity inclusion can be attain through what the poem portrays and through our sensitive and selective actions. The first one (1) finding sense of belonging, it is what everybody’s aiming for. Next is (2) showing empathy and integrations of the unmasked face and last one (3) is embracing diversity towards life’s fulfillness and totality.
In today’s global world, we are populated of so much greediness , pride and power due to the variant race, traditions, culture, ages and other. This is the wrong ethics of a man in order to live in this world, one must maintain his power over others. In today’s ever-growing diverse population and hierarchies created, it is very difficult and we simply too afraid to accept those who are different from us. We are not interested and unwillingness kills us entirely as a whole.
Through creating an action to change our mindset, like showing empathy and integration and a holistic vision for a culture change, we can attain the diversity inclusion. Unity starts with you, if not you, then who? Real empathy means we are willing to take time to see people who are different , as a capable of love, deserve for a happiness and acceptance to be part of the group.
For example, diversity in the workplace is always seen in the four corners of the globe, it is widely beneficial in the organization in terms of creativity, innovation, collaboration, wordly knowlege and teamwork. Having a more diverse employment, the greater the possibility to meet the demands of the global trend. It is easier for them to appeal to each different targets, considering their preferences and choices. It will extract discrimination and avoid all forms of miscommunication , leading us to become all inclusions champions. All should exert more effort to do so, we are heading to he road of life’s fulfillness and totality.
“I am Diversity, Please Include Me” is an eye-opener poem to all that diversity is not a hindrance for us to achieve our ultimate goal. Indeed, we can reach out our true happiness and unity through self-actualization, allowing, accepting someone’s potential. We are all different and blessed on our own unique way!
